Of Mexico and sea turtles.

19 Feb

The other week I received an email from National Geographic Explorer which, among other things, included a countdown of 10 Great Adventure Trips that Give Back.  I made it exactly three clicks when I stopped because I just knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what my next next trip would be.

Magdalena Bay Sea Turtle Conservation Adventure, you are my newest friend.

This trip combines all the things I love about travel – adventure (it says so, right there in the name), nature, camping, great food, the ability to do something good for the world, and warm weather.  Throw in sea turtles and the opportunity for some birding and I’m as good as sold.

Mike and I exchanged approximately 643 rapid-fire emails when I learned of this trip, with each one building our excitement and cementing the idea that this WILL happen.  Each morning for the last week we’ve started our day by talking about Mexico.  This morning, in fact, we looked at the website again and “oohed” and “aahed” over photos of cozy campsites, handsome turtles, and people having the time of their lives.  This did make me about 5 minutes late for work.

Sigh.

Mexico and sea turtles.  Coming in Spring 2014.

So tell me.  What are YOUR big travel dreams for the next year or so?

I don’t know when exactly it’ll be, but one of my cousins will EVENTUALLY marry his long-time girlfriend over in Holland. He has been instructed that we po’ folk across the pond need advance notice for these things, but we will definitely go. It’ll be our first international trip *together* since Chile. Stroopwafels and poffertjes and apple cake, holla!

Did I really just say, “holla”? Indeed I did.

Indeed, CKD, the only time it’s acceptable to use the word “holla” is when you’re talking about Dutch pastries. So you get a pass. This time.

Also, I’m still envious of your trip to Chile. That one is on the top of my list.

PS I love the Nat Geo magazines. I get Traveler. It’s my monthly escape, in which I pretend like I can and will go to all of these places as though money and employment are not an issue.

We get good, old-fashioned National Geographic Regular. Love it like mad. If budget was not an issue, we would subscribe to all the Nat Geo magazines, possibly even Nat Geo Kids because they probably have cute pictures of baby animals.

My son’s band is playing in Disney World in April 2014. That will be our biggest family vacation to date.

How exciting! I’ve never been to Disney World, but I have always wanted to go.

What an amazing trip! I love turtles and tortoises, was planning on checking out the galapagos maybe next. But I’m also going to look into this, looks right up my alley.

Oh, Jenn, the Galapagos are my once-in-a-lifetime, if-I’m-allowed-to-go-anywhere-in-the-world-regardless-of-cost dream trip. If you go I will be insane with jealousy, but also so, so excited for you.

It’s been on the top of my list for awhile so I’m hoping we get to go. My grandma went a few years back and had an amazing time. The pictures of this trip in Mexico look wonderful and what a beautiful campsite! I don’t know what it is about turtles, but I want to reach through the screen and hug them.

That’s it… I’m officially jealous. In a good way. I can’t wait to see pictures/hear all about it!

Oh, trust me. You’ll hear about it and see TONS of pictures. More than you could possibly want to see. :)

Looks like a grand adventure! :)

This would be so cool! Our next adventure is hopefully coming in June and July….We are going to Europe! We have both been before, but this will be our first time together.
